Do tots and cruising mix?
I wonder if cruising with pre-school tots is a good idea? I've been on a few cruise ships without my small people and really enjoyed it, despite the slightly odd look friends give you when you say you like "cruising". Family travel can be very stressful if you don't get it right, so my aim with this blog is always to find people who will give you honest, frank advice. If I booked a cruise holiday now (with a one year old and a three and a half year old) would there be a ship with high chairs in the dining room? Would "mature" guests recoil on horror as they see our brood approaching? Would my manic three year old be tempted to climb over the side and throw herself overboard? I love the idea of it, but need to be convinced that there are ships out there which are really geared up for the younger crew.

Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteMy advice would be - go for it! Providing you research the appropriate child friendly ship in advance - and there are many - then I'm convinced you and the family would love cruise holidays. The facilites available for toddlers and children of all ages more then equal the equivalent land based resort, there's ample high chairs in the casual dining areas and, most of all, a cruise ship is an incredibly safe environment. And don't have nightmares about your little one's climbing overboard - an adult would struggle to clamber over the railings, let alone a three year old! I'd recommend a cruise holiday for a stress-free family break, enabling you to get involved in as much or as little of the on board activities as you wish, while the children are kept amused with their own clubs and entertainment. Trust me, our two are demanding enough and they couldn't get enough of our first cruise as a family last summer.
